Group topping France and Switzerland faced off in Euro 2016 on Sunday with the sides cancelling each other out to draw 0-0.
Les Blues got off to a fast start as Paul Pogba had a shot blocked after two minutes. Switzerland settled quickly, however, and were unlucky not to score following a chaotic loose all off a corner.
Pogba then did well to work an effort from range in the 12th minute, which Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer spilled onto the crossbar and out for a corner. Sommer was then on hand to deny Pogba yet again just a minute later.
Pogba then struck the bar after 17 minutes before delivering a cross for Andre-Pierre Gignac, who couldn’t get purchase on his header.
Switzerland began to probe more as the game wore on but were unable to work any clear-cut openings, while France failed to string together their final-third play. At half-time the scores remained unchanged at 0-0.
Switzerland began the second period brightly, but failed to take advantage of a succession of corners. Gignac then forced an ultimately comfortable save from Sommer after 52 minutes, beofore Antoine Griezman forced Sommer into action following great interplay with Pogba four minutes later.
A great run from Moussa Sissoko after 75 minutes set-up Dimitri Payet for a shot, but the winger’s effort crashed against the cross bar to deny the French.
Switzerland were denied a late penalty after some overzealous holding the in the box in extra time, but ultimately neither side were able to break down the other, as the scores ended level at 0-0.
