Leicester City defender Christian Fuchs has announced his retirement from international football.

The 30-year-old played a major role for the Foxes in their surge to winning the Premier League title during the 2015-16 and his efforts on the international stage have been no different, reports the Leicester City website.

Fuchs made his international debut for Austria in May 2006 and went on to make a total of 78 appearances for the Austrian side, scoring only once.

In 2012 the defender was made the captain of Austria and led his country to a successful Euro 2016 qualifying campaign.

The Premier League winner captained his nation in the Euro 2016 campaign with a 2-0 defeat to Hungary, before playing out to a goalless draw against Portugal.

Austria could’ve qualified for the Round of 16 but a dramatic late goal by Arnor Traustason saw Iceland advance with a 2-1 victory over Das Team during his final appearance in Austrian colours.

Fuchs played in all three group stage fixtures and ended his international career as Austria’s eighth most capped player of all time.
