Arsenal left back Kieran Gibbs has been called up to the England national to for their upcoming World Cup qualifier against Slovenia on Tuesday.
The 27-year-old has been drafted in as a late replacement for Ryan Bertrand, who has withdrawn from the squad due to injury and the defender will return to his club shortly where he will undergo an assessment from Southampton’s medical team.
Gibbs has already earned 10 caps for the Three Lions senior team since making his international debut during a 2-1 victory over Hungary at Wembley Stadium in 2010.
This season the left back has only featured four times for the Gunners and is yet to make a Premier League start for Arsenal having fallen behind Nacho Monreal in the pecking order, with Gibbs being restricted to just 37 minutes on the pitch so far.
Bertrand becomes the latest player to withdraw from Gareth Southgate’s squad due to injury after Adam Lallana,Raheem Sterling, Danny Drinkwater, and Phil Jagielka also pulled out.
