Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola’s father believes the coach will not return for a second stint at Barcelona, whom his club faces on Wednesday.
The Spanish coach enjoyed tremendous success in charge of the Catalan club as he led them to 14 trophies in his four seasons, including two Champions League wins and three La Liga titles. Now, City are set to meet Barcelona in a Champions League clash as the sides battle for supremacy in Group C.
‘Return to Barcelona? To do what, work as a ballboy?’ Guardiola senior, Valenti, joked with Cadena Ser.
‘I really don’t see him there either as president or on the bench. His time with Barca has come and gone, I don’t think he would do well in going back. At the very least, I think we can rule out him coming back as coach.’
Valenti insisted he would be supporting the Citizens for Wednesday’s clash, while he has also made reference to Guardiola’s record as a cause for optimism.
‘He does well everywhere,’ he argued. ‘He did great in Germany too, they loved him there, and he has walked into a big club in England.’
The coach’s father concluded by declaring he did not think his son would ever take the reigns of the national team.
‘I would say he could take the Catalan national team, but I can’t see him in Spain,’ he explained. ‘I’m not just saying that, I have nothing against anyone. Everyone is free to think what they want,’ he concluded.
City and Barca’s clash will be played at the Camp Nou.
The action gets underway from 20:45.
