Argentina and Napoli forward Gonzalo Higuain has become a transfer target for Arsenal in a move which could see Olivier Giroud move the other way.

As of yet there is no offer on the table from the Gunners, but the side has allegedly spoken with the player’s agent, reports  Sky Sports Italy.

Arsenal has long been linked with the Argentine striker having previously failed to agree a deal for the player when he quit Real Madrid back in 2013.

With the forward likely to demand a substantial transfer fee, Arsenal is reportedly considering offering striker Oliver Giroud in part exchange for the star.

Giroud, meanwhile, is allegedly open to the move. ‘There is no fear in Olivier going to Napoli, it is a magnificent city,’ Giroud’s agent told Radio CRC.

‘In Campania, my client would lead a wonderful life, not to mention that the type of game orchestrated by Napoli coach Maurizio Sarri could enhance the quality of a centre-forward like him.’

Higuain broke a long-standing Serie A scoring record last season when he netted 36 goals for the club.
