Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera says he was satisfied with the point following their goalless draw against Liverpool at Anfield on Monday.
In a game of few clear-cut opportunities, United produced a tactical performance to fend off the in-form Liverpool threat with Herrera playing key roles at Anfield.
The 27-year-old admits that it was a fair result, but he is delighted with the way the team performed in an evenly contested match.
‘We were better in the first half, they were better in the second half. It’s a fair point,’ Herrera told the Manchester United website.
‘We can be proud of the team today, every player did everything and gave everything. This is the way we need to play in this sort of fixture, so we are very happy.’
Following his man-of-the-match performance, the Spanish midfielder says he is proud that the Red Devils walked away with a point after playing against one of the best current teams.
‘We fought against a team who are in one of their best moments – at home, they are not going to lose many games,’ he added.
‘They pressed very high and intensive but they didn’t feel comfy – if you ask them, they will tell you that. We cannot be 100 per cent happy because we want to win always, but we can be proud.’
Manchester United will now turn their attention to the Europa League when they take on Fenerbahce on Thursday.
The match at Old Trafford kicks off at 21:05.
