Gonzalo Higuain’s club Napoli have poured cold water on reports suggesting the striker is poised to join Juventus.
28-year-old Argentine was superb for Napoli last term as he hit 36 league goals to steer the side to the runners-up slot in Italy.
But according to the club, reports suggesting The Old Lady were swooping for the star are wide of the mark.
‘It is just nonsense,’ club president Aurelio De Laurentiis told Sky Italia.
Meanwhile, vice-president Edo De Laurentiis has also spoken against the rumour.
‘It is just a hoax and you must not believe everything,’ he told TuttoNapoli.
‘We are building a great squad for the Champions League. We have received no offer for Higuain, neither from Juve nor any other club.’
Premier League side Arsenal have also reportedly shown interest in Higuain, having attempted to sign the forward years ago when he quit Real Madrid. Reports of a swap deal involving Olivier Giroud have also come to fore.
Higuain’s agent had last month suggested his client would turn down a renewal offer from the club. At present, Higuain’s contract has two years left to run.
