Arsenal defender Rob Holding believes his side missed out on the chance to win silverware following their exit from the EFL Cup on Wednesday.
Saints midfielder Jordy Clasie broke the deadlock in the opening 13 minutes before Ryan Bertrand doubled their lead and all but sealed the victory in the 38th minute.
The 21-year-old was disappointed at his side’s failure to reach the cup finals.
‘You look at the players we had out tonight, there were some big players and you think with the strength of the squad, a second-string team can get all the way – but it wasn’t to be,’ Holding told the Arsenal website.
‘It was a chance to get some silverware at the end of the season, so I’m disappointed to be out of the competition. We’ve just got to learn from it and it’ll only help us in the coming years.’
Arsenal will be targeting winning ways again when they face West Ham United in the Premier League at the London Stadium.
Kick-off has been set for 19:30.
