Newly-promoted Hull City got their Premier League campaign off to a dream start as they stunned the defending champions Leicester City 2-1 at the KCOM Stadium on Saturday.

New Leicester signing Ahmed Musa started his first Premier League encounter for the Foxes alongside teammate Jamie Vardy, meanwhile, Hull only had 13 senior players fit and available for the match.

An acrobatic bicycle kick by Adama Diomande gave the hosts the lead on the stroke of half-time and Robert Snodgrass scored their second after Riyad Mahrez had levelled from the penalty spot shortly after the half-time interval.

Just before Diomande’s goal Leicester had two good opportunities in quick succession to take the lead, with Robert Fuchs denied by Hull goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic and Jamie Vardy’s follow-up thwarted by a saving block by Jake Livermore. In the Foxes’ next attack Vardy hammered his effort over from close range after being picked out by Ahmed Musa’s centre.

Hull punished the Foxes with a goal from a corner as Kasper Schmeichel pushed out Curtis Davies’ header, only to be beaten by an overhead kick by Diomande who kicked the ball fractionally after team-mate Abel Hernandez had a similar chance.

Leicester wing Mahrez equalised two minutes into the second period after Demarai Gray had been fouled in the box by Tom Huddlestone, however, Hull restored their advantage in the 57th minute when Snodgrass blazed his low effort into the back of the net after Leicester failed to clear Ahmed Elmohamady’s cross.

Leicester  pressed in search of an equalising goal but the closest they came to finding the back of the net was when Danny Drinkwater’s attempt was easily saved by Jakupovic.

However, Hull City held on to claim a shocking 2-1 victory over the Premier League champions to open their new season with a victory in their first match.
