Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho has signed a new two-year contract extension keeping him at the club until 2021.

The 19-year-old scored 14 times and assisted a further five from 35 appearances in all competitions after breaking into the first team under Manuel Pellegrini last season, reports the Manchester City website.

The Nigeria international expressed his excitement at committing his future to City and he insists that he will work hard to repay them for it.

‘I can’t express how I’m feeling! I’m very happy to sign my new deal for this Club, I’m excited,’ Iheanacho said.

‘I just need to keep working hard and express my feelings on the pitch and work really well and do great things for the team. I’m happy and I appreciate everything the club has done for me so far at this point so I really need to help and work for them as well.’

City manager Pep Guardiola revealed that he has been impressed with the young striker, stating that he is a ‘natural goalscorer’.

Guardiola hopes that Iheanacho can help the club reach new heights and also help him to reach his full potential.

‘Kelechi is a natural goal-scorer. I knew about him before, but I’ve been really impressed with him since I arrived,’ Guardiola added.

‘I like his personality, his attitude, his ability – we hope to help him reach the highest level and to realise his full potential.’

Iheanacho made a first-team impact for City  on their tour of America in 2014, having caught the eye of Nigeria at the U17 World Cup a year before.

Manchester City will now travel to the Britannia Stadium when they take on Stoke City in the Premier League on Saturday.

Kick-off has been set for 13:30.
