Inter Miami have announced the signing of Barcelona captain Sergio Busquets, who is now set to reunite with former teammate Lionel Messi.
Busquets, who is 34 years old, said in May that he was leaving the La Liga champions after 18 years.
The midfielder will play with Messi, who confirmed this month that he was moving from Paris St.-Germain to Inter Miami. Messi is 35 years old.
From 2008 to 2021, Busquets and Messi both played for Barcelona.
They were on a successful team that won three Champions Leagues, eight La Liga titles, and six Copas del Rey.
It has been said that former Spain midfielder Busquets, like Messi, got offers from Saudi Arabia. However, he chose to move to the team owned by David Beckham in Miami instead.
Busquets, a former captain of Spain, played 722 games for Barcelona, which is the third-most for any player in the club’s history.
During the 15 years he played on the senior team, he scored 18 goals and set up 40 others.
Busquets joined the club as a youth player in 2005. He moved up to Barca’s B team before making his first-team debut in a league game against Racing Santander in 2008, when Pep Guardiola was the manager.
Barcelona called Busquets “one of the best players to ever play for the club” when they said he was leaving the Nou Camp.
He stopped playing for his country in December after winning the World Cup in 2010 and the European Championship in 2012.
