Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says he was left frustrated after his side suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat against Southampton in the EFL Cup semi-final first leg on Wednesday.
Saints forward Nathan Redmond scored the only goal of the match in the 20th minute after slotting the ball past Reds shot-stopper Loris Karius.
The German manager says he was not happy with his side’s result against the Saints but has stressed the importance of improving their performance ahead of their Premier League clash against Manchester United on Sunday.
‘[It is] the only comfort! It’s the third best result you can get. If you don’t win, you don’t draw, then losing 1-0 is the third best result. I don’t like it too much but it’s still possible,’ Klopp told the Liverpool website.
‘This team always shows a reaction and we have to show a reaction in this cup against Southampton – but it would be cool if we could already show a reaction at the weekend because we probably need a better performance to get something at Old Trafford.’
The match at Old Trafford kicks off at 18:00.
