Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has explained how specific training methods help the Reds goalkeepers overcome the physical nature of the Premier League.
Liverpool claimed a 4-2 victory over Crystal Palace in the Premier League at Selhurst Park on Saturday.
The 49-year-old manager says their training methods are designed to help the Reds shot-stoppers deal more comfortably with crowded penalty areas and the pressure from long balls into the box.
‘First, as a keeper you have to learn the technique, then you have to adapt to the real circumstances – having six or seven players around you,’ Klopp told the Liverpool website.
‘No one gets out of your way. It is completely the opposite. They want to disturb your way. That wasn’t a specific preparation for Crystal Palace. It was specific training for goalkeepers in the Premier League.
‘You can’t say no long balls in the box and if there are, then immediately whistle. That’s not how it works, so we need to prepare the boys and that’s what John is doing.’
Liverpool will now welcome Watford to Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday, with kick-off set for 16:15.
