Algerian striker Islam Slimani scored the only goal of the match to help Leicester City secure a 1-0 victory over Porto in their Champions League clash at the King Power Stadium.

Claudio Ranieri’s side enjoyed an impressive start to the first half with Slimani and Jamie Vardy looking lively in the final third.

The Foxes were rewarded for their early pressure when Riyad Mahrez picked out Slimani, who headed home from close range in the 26th minute.

Porto came close to finding an equalising goal in the 35th minute when Porto defender Miguel Layun’s free-kick sailed just wide of the upright.

Dragoes continued to push for an equaliser in the closing stages of the opening half, but they failed to carve out any clear-cut chance in attack.

The Foxes came out attacking in the second half and nearly extended there in the 59th minute but Porto goalkeeper Iker Casillas was on hand to deny Mahrez’s from 20-yards out.

However, Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel was forced into making a fine save to deny Diogo Jota from close range in the 72nd minute of the match.

Porto threw numbers forward as they searched for an equaliser but the Foxes held on to clinch their second successive victory in the Champions League Group Stages.
