Liverpool returned to the top of the Premier League after a hard-fought victory over Sunderland at Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp’s team dominated possession for long periods and missed the playmaking ability of Philippe Coutinho, who was stretchered off in the first half after a tackle from Sunderland’s Didier Ndong.
Liverpool looked set to settle for a point, but finally broke the deadlock with Coutinho’s replacement, Divock Origi, netting his first goal of the season magnificently.
The win was sealed in stoppage time when Ndong conceded a penalty for a foul on Sadio Mane. James Milner coolly converted from the spot, sending Jordan Pickford the wrong way.
