Leicester City wing Riyad Mahrez has revealed that Arsenal tried to sign him during the off-season but the Premier League champions were reluctant to sell him.
The 25-year-old was recently linked with a move to the Gunners ahead of the 2016-17 season but a transfer never materialised, according to Goal.com.
The Algerian international believes he made the right choice by staying loyal to the Foxes and signing a new contract with the club, instead of joining Arsene Wenger’s side.
‘There was contact with Arsenal,’ Mahrez said.
‘But Leicester wanted to keep me and I was pretty expensive. I did not want to create a conflict when the offer came in.
‘Personally, I think it is a good thing I stayed put.’
Mahrez has already scored three goals from 10 appearances in all competitions this season after scoring an impressive 18 goals in 39 matches last season.
Leicester City travel to Stamford Bridge when they take Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday.
Kick-off has been set for 13:30.
