Manchester City claimed a 2-1 win over Burnley while Liverpool were held to a 2-2 draw with struggling side Sunderland in the Premier League on Monday.
The Citizens edged out Burnley at the Etihad on Monday afternoon, despite midfielder Fernandinho being sent off after receiving a red card in the first minute of the match.
The midfielder was shown a red card after catching Gudmundsson with a two-footed challenge leaving the referee with no choice but to show him his third red card of the season.
However, left back Gael Clichy gave his side the lead before substitute Sergio Aguero doubled the home side’s advantage before Ben Mee pulled one back for the visiting side as City walked away with all three points.
Meanwhile, West Bromwich Albion beat Hull City 3-1 in the Premier League at the Hawthorns when Robert Snodgrass opened the scoring for the Tigers but Chris Brunt equalised before Gareth McAuley gave the Baggies the lead and James Morrison sealed the victory for his side in the 73rd minute.
While three Late strikes from Enner Valencia, Leighton Baines and Romelu Lukaku secured all three points for Everton after beating Southampton 3-0 at Goodison Park.
Liverpool and Sunderland were forced to share the spoils at the Stadium of light when Daniel Sturridge opened the scoring for the Reds but Defoe equalised from the penalty spot before Sadio Mane restored their lead, however, Defoe completed his brace once again from the penalty spot as David Moyes’ side earned a point.
