Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have been drawn against Steaua Bucharest for the right to contest the Champions League group stages for a sixth successive season.
The most successful Romanian club in history, Steaua reached the play-off rounds with victory over Sparta Prague and play in the 55,000 capacity Arena Nationala. Bucharest finished as runners-up in Romania’s Liga I last season and last won the title in 2014-15.
Steaua won the European Cup once back in 1985-86 and they also finished as runners-up in 1988-89, reports the Manchester City website.
Steaua will be aiming to reach the group stages for the first time since the 2013-14 season when they finished bottom of a group containing Basel, Chelsea and Schalke, ending Group E with three points.
The first leg will be played away from home on 16-17 August, with the return match at the Etihad Stadium on 23-24 August.
