Manchester City traveled to Swansea City’s Liberty Stadium in the EFL Cup on Wednesday, earning a 2-1 win after an edgy performance.

The match got off to a laboured start as both sides struggled to establish any rhythm early on. The first real chance of the match came in the 13th minute as City youngster Angelino fired wide from close range after a cross from Pablo Zabaleta.

Willy Caballero almost gifted Swansea a goal after 15-minutes as his poor clearance handed Borja Gonzales a chance but the goalkeeper reacted quickly to his initial mistake to save the shot.

Another defensive error almost saw City take the lead as Jesus Navas picked up the loose ball and fed Manu Garia, whose low cross was very nearly turned in for an own goal.

Navas had one last chance for City before the half-time interval but with his effort sailing harmlessly over the bar the score remained level at 0-0 at the break.

The second period got off to an ideal start for City as Gael Clichy scored with a deflected effort after just three minutes.

Swansea were almost handed an equaliser on a platter by John Stones as the defender mis-controlled in the box, letting in Gylfi Sigurdsson for a shot from close range. It took a fine save from Caballero to preserve City’s lead.

Just a few minutes later City struck their second. It was Garica with got the goal as he did well to redirect a Navas cross into the bottom corner.

With the game winding down City remained in control though Swansea did have a chance from a free kick which struck the wall. Then, with seconds remaining in the game, Sigurdsson tapped home a late consolation for Swansea.

Despite a frantic last minute, City ultimately prevailed by a 2-1 scoreline.
