Sunderland have completed a deal to sign full back Javier Manquillo from La Liga side Atletico Madrid.
The agreement is a season-long loan initially, which includes an option for Sunderland to make the move a permanent four-year deal after the completion of the loan, reports the Sunderland website.
The 22-year-old Spaniard has now become manager David Moyes’ fifth signing of the summer after joining from the Spanish giants.
Manquillo is no stranger to the Premier League having spent the 2014-15 season on loan with Liverpool.
The defender has represented the Spanish national team at youth level up to U21 and has experience in both the Champions League and Europa League playing for Atleti senior team.
He spent last season on loan at French Ligue 1 side Marseille, where he assisted three goals from 33 appearances in all competitions.
Over the course of his career, Manquillo has assisted six goals from 112 appearances in all competitions playing for Atletico Madrid, Liverpool and Marseille.
