Messi boost for Argentina

Ballon d’Or holder Lionel Messi is set to return for Argentina as the side takes on Panama in the Copa America.

The Barcelona superstar, who also captains the side, sat out the Albiceleste’s opening fixture against Chile (a 2-1 win) having suffered a back injury in the build-up to the tournament.

Messi is set to return for Argentina’s game against Paraguay, reports Aol.

‘Messi trained with the group and is going to play tomorrow,’ said Martino in reference to the game.

‘I see no reason to not include him.’

The 2015 Copa America runners-up are without Lazio midfielder Lucas Biglia, who is not expected to return until the final Group Game.

‘Biglia is recovering very well. We will see in the third group game if he can get some minutes,’ Martino said.

The former Barcelona manager has remained grounded about Argentina’s prospects.

‘The pressure against Chile gave us the result. [Panama] is a totally different game,’ he claimed.

‘We are the same as last year but have started better. It was a promising debut, but we are only aiming to qualify [for the knockout stage].’

The match will take place at Soldier Field in Chicago.

Kick-off is from 3:30 on Saturday morning.
