Milik wins it for Poland

Arkadiusz Milik scored the decisive goal for Poland in a lively display as the Poles overcame Northern Ireland 1-0.

Milik, who plays as a striker for Dutch side Ajax, got his goal in the 51st minute as he collected a ball from Lukasz Piszczek before rifling a left-footed shot into the bottom corner.

The goal ensured Poland their first win in European Championship history, having taken just three points from their two previous expeditions in the tournament.

Milik was partnered with superstar Robert Lewandowski up front, but with the Irish packing the defence, it made life difficult for the forwards. Nevertheless, Milik proved the more lively of the two on the night.

With 54 touches in the duration of his time on the pitch, Milik managed an impressive five shots on goal, three of which hit the target, according to SASoccermag’s Opta-powered match centre.
