Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has been ruled out for at least a month of action as the Croatia star undergoes surgery on a knee problem.
Modric last featured for Real in their Champions League’s clash with Borussia Dortmund last week but was ruled out of Real’s 1-1 draw to minnows Eibar this past weekend.
The 31-year-old was since confirmed to be struggling with a knee injury, with Los Blanocs announcing the star had undergone an arthroscopy procedure.
‘Our player Luka Modric has today undergone an arthroscopy on his left knee to remove a fragment of cartilage of post-trauma origin,’ a statement on the club’s website read.
‘The operation was carried out successfully under the supervision of Real Madrid’s head of medical services, doctor Jesus Olmo. Modric will begin his recovery process tomorrow,’ the statement added.
Although there was no confirmation of precisely how long Modric would be sidelined it is believed the injury will keep the player out of contention for at least four weeks.
