Jose Mourinho, the new Manchester United boss, has updated the fans on the club’s transfer prospects opting to steer clear of Zlatan Ibrahimovic talk.

The Portuguese tactician was finally confirmed in the role on Friday, and rumours have been circulating as to his potential transfer targets ever since.

Sporting Lisbon winger Joao Mario had been touted as an option, but Mourinho has dismissed that particular talk as merely speculation.

‘No, I will definitely not take anyone from Portugal to Old Trafford,’ the former Chelsea man told The Guardian.

But when questioned about the rumours pertaining to free agent Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the Portuguese was less assertive.

‘My good friends always rave about me,’ he said, neither confirming nor denying United’s link with the Swede.

Mourinho previously managed Ibrahimovic at Inter Milan, where the pair guided the side to the Serie A title and Italian Super Cup.

Ibrahimovic had a tremendous season at Paris-Saint Germain this term as he scored 53 goals in 53 games across all competitions. Nevertheless, United fans will be weary of the striker’s age (34), while many hold reservations over the whether or not the striker could reproduce his best form playing in the Premier League, a notable step-up from Ligue 1.
