Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho says there were ‘good signs’ following his side’s 3-1 victory over Bournemouth in the opening Premier League encounter at the Vitality Stadium.

Juan Mata opened the scoring with a tap-in after Bournemouth defender Simon Francis’ error before United captain Wayne Rooney headed the second. new signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic marked his United league debut with a goal from 25 yards.

Mourinho insists that his side were deserved the victory and all three points in their Premier League opener after taking on a tough Bournemouth side.

‘The three points, the quality of our attacking football, the quality of our control, the quality of us defensively – we were very compact. It’s three points against a very difficult opponent and I don’t think there’s any doubt we deserved to win,’ , Mourinho told the Manchester United website.

The Portuguese manager went on to praise his team’s performance and also reserved special praise for Marouane Fellaini, who he believes has become an important part of his United midfield.

‘[Eric] Bailly and Daley [Blind] played well, the midfield players had an unbelievable complement for each other,’ he said.

‘With [Marouane] Fellaini I always have the feeling that he was not loved by the general Red people. But if he plays like he’s playing now, they have to love him because he’s being so important for us.’

The 53-year-old continued to say that he was delighted by his side’s victory, however, he insists that the red Devils need to improve their performance.

‘I’m really happy. It’s just the start, we need to improve every day. But we won and that’s the most important thing,’ he added.

Manchester United will now take on Southampton when the two side’s meet at Old Trafford on Friday.
