France sensation Dimitri Payet has lauded his side following their convincing 5-2 win over Iceland which saw them book their place in the Euro 2016 semi-finals.

France had effectively wrapped the game up before half-time has Payet himself got on the scoresheet following another strike from range.

‘This was our best performance this tournament,’ reflected the 29-year-old midfielder, reports Goal.

‘We managed to score a lot of goals, which was great. And it was important that we scored early on.’

The midfielder, who has three goals to his name in the tournament, has acknowledged his side’s potential for creating scoring chances was key to their tournament-high goal tally.

‘We have a lot of quality in attack. We had a lot of chances, which allowed us to score. We were aware of Iceland’s strength, but we were on top of our game,’ he explained.

France faces the daunting task of having to get past Germany when the sides meet at the Stade Velodrome in Marseille on Thursday.

Payet, meanwhile, has acknowledged that despite several injury and suspensions worries, the Germans remain a formidable side.

‘Germany will not be weakened. They are the reigning world champions,’ he noted.

Kick-off is at 21:00.
