Spain and Chelsea winger Pedro has apologised after claiming he was wasting his time with the Spain squad in France.

Pedro has played less than 10 minutes in Spain’s opening two games Euro 2016, triggering an angry reaction from the star.

‘It is not worth me turning up just to be part of the group,’ the 28-year old told Movistar. 

‘I thought in this European Championship I could play more because I arrived in very good form. Evidently, it is very different. I had other ideas when I arrived here and they are not turning out how I expected.’

But following a negative reaction from fans, Pedro has now clarified his comments.

‘I apologise to the fans if they were offended,’ he said. ‘I prefer to be on the pitch than to hardly play, but I am very happy to be here and I will keep working hard and fighting to help the group.

‘At no moment have I said I did not want to be here, that I wanted to go, or that I was uncomfortable here – it’s just that everyone wants to play.’

Pedro has insisted he did not intend his comments to sound like an attack on Spain Coach Vincente Del Bosque and the Spain manager has since backed up his player, reports Sky Sports.

‘What he has said, he did not disrespect anyone. I think his conscience got the better of him a little bit and he just showed a reality of what the 12 players who are not playing all feel,’ said Del Bosque.

‘Pedro was a bit angry he is not playing, that is inevitable and can happen. All the news here has been positive so when something negative comes out it is blown out proportion a bit, but I don’t think it will have a lot of repercussions.’

Pedro has made 58 appearances for Spain, scoring 17 times.
