Jose Mourinho has expressed his satisfaction at Manchester United’s long chase for Paul Pogba having all but come to an end.

The Red Devils confirmed they had received permission to perform a medical with the player shortly before the side tackled Leicester City in the Community Shield, in which a late Zlatan Ibrahimovic goal ensured a 2-1 victory.

Following the game, Mourinho was asked to comment on whether Pogba’s arrival was imminent.

‘I think so, finally. It’s an amazing situation that such a great player is with us. Finally we have him,’ he told BT Sport.

‘He comes to a winning side, who have won the Cup Final and the Community Shield. He has to work hard to come to the team. I only heard this information just before the game.’

Pogba’s move from Juventus is expected to break the world record transfer fee Real Madrid paid to acquire the services of Gareth Bale from Tottenham Hotspur.

Real paid £85-million to bring Bale to the Bernabeu back in 2013 while the Pogba deal is expected to cost United close to £91-million without agent’s fees.

Pogba infamously left the Red Devils on a free back in 2012 after failing to convince Sir Alex Ferguson of his qualities in the United first team.

Now 23, Pogba returns with a glittering CV and on the brink of joining the world’s very best players.

The French midfielder won the Serie A in all but one of his five seasons in Italy to go with his two Coppa Italia titles and a pair of Supercoppa Italiana wins. Pogba was also a key part of the Juve side that failed to beat Barcelona in the 2015 final of the Champions League.

That runner-up finish was equalled in national team colours this summer after France failed to hold off Portugal on home soil at Euro 2016.

Pogba’s international highlights include being named Fifa’s Best Young Player at the 2014 World Cup while has was also named in the 2015 Uefa Team of the Year as well as the FIFPro World XI in the same season.

Last season, Pogba finished as the Serie A’s top assist-provider.
