French midfielder Paul Pogba was immense in midfield as France crushed Iceland in Paris on Sunday, writes WADE PRETORIUS.
Linked with a world record transfer away from Juventus, Pogba entered the match under a wave of criticism for failing to hit his straps at Euro 2016. That position changed after his 90 minute effort against minnows Iceland.
According to SASoccermag’s Opta-powered match centre, Pogba completed 89 of his 95 passes in a commanding performance at the heart of the France midfield.
Pogba proved his versatility as he scored his side’s second goal with a towering header that left the goalkeeper no chance while on defence he won 2 interceptions and lost just six of his 13 duels.
At the heart of every attack, the 23-year-old midfielder made 108 touches and won 50% of his tackles. A duel against Toni Kroos on Thursday looms large.
Real Madrid and Manchester United will be forced into spending 100 million pounds for his services but on this performance such a fee looks like a bargain.
