Portugal have stormed into the quarter-finals of Euro 2016 following a dramatic late win over Croatia, with Ricardo Quaresma scoring at the death.
The cagey encounter saw the sides’ respective midfield stars cancel each other out for long period of the game, as the sides looks destined to be separated on penalties.
According to SASoccermag’s Opta-powered match stats, Croatia enjoyed the majority of the possession in the first period as they enjoyed 60 percent of the ball, with that figure remaining relatively consistent throughout the match, ending at 59 percent.
Croatia also had more shots in the first period as they managed three to Portugal’s one, while the sides’ respective tallies stood at 17 and six at the end of extra time.
It took a last ditch goal by Quaresma to prevent the game going the distance. The winger came on as a substitute in the game and spent 33 minutes on the pitch in total. Making 26 touches, the winger was in the right place at the right time to take advantage of his only effort on goal.
Quaresma also made three interceptions and a tackle in his heroic cameo.
