Real Madrid have equalled Barcelona’s record of scoring in 44 consecutive official matches, following their 3-2 victory over Villarreal on Sunday.

The Whites fought back after going 2-0, but Gareth Bale’s header and Cristiano Ronaldo’s penalty pulled Real level before Alvaro Morata came off the bench to head the winner late in their five-goal thriller.

Zinedine Zidane’s side have now scored in 44 consecutive official games and have equalled the record that Barcelona set between November 1942 and February 1944. Real Madrid have the opportunity to beat the record set by the Catalan side when they take on UD Las Palmas at the Bernabeu in the La Liga on Wednesday.

The Whites have not stopped scoring since 26 April 2016 in the 0-0 draw against Manchester City in the Champions League. Madrid were among the goals in the last 5 games of last season and in all 39 played in the current season.

Real are currently placed first in the La Liga standing with 55 points, having won 17 out of 23 matches played so far this season, with Barcelona trailing them by a point in second.

Real Madrid will take on Las Palmas next at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in the La Liga on Wednesday.

Kick-off has been set for 22:30.
