Marcus Rashford hit a dramatic late winner as Manchester United finally cracked a dogged Hull City defense on Saturday.

The Red Devils had the better of the early exchanges as Zlatan Ibrahimovic made his presence known in the box before firing off the first shot of the match after 10 minutes, which sailed over the bar.

With United dominating possession Hull were getting plenty of bodies behind the ball to make finding gaps difficult. Hull’s Robert Snodgrass had the next shot as he fired a free kick inches wide after 26 minutes.

Juan Mata had a tame free kick easily saved after 35 minutes before Abel Hernandez went close for Hull just two minutes later. Ibrahimovic then came close with a clever back heel following a free kick but his effort struck the side netting. The scores remained level at 0-0 at the interval.

The second period began with continued pressure from Manchester United but the side struggled to carve open opportunities. Anthony Martial fired wide from range on the hour mark before Ibrahimovic had his effort blocked just a minute later.

Ibrahimovic blasted a free kick against the wall with 71 minutes played before Wayne Rooney hit his volley narrowly wide a couple of minutes later. Then, against the run of play, Tom Huddlestone came close as his deflected effort arrowed just wide.

Marcus Rashford came close as his finesse shot was well saved after 79 minutes before a dramatic Curtis Davies block denied Henrikh Mkhitaryan from close range.

With time running out United were laying siege to the Hull’s defence as Paul Pogba went close with curling ranged shot. Then, with just a minute of extra time remaining, Rashford sealed the points with a tap-in following superb work on the wing from Rooney.

It proved Manchester United’s day as the Red Devils took home all three points.
