Russia’s football federation has been handed a heavy fine and faces a suspended sentence following violence from the country’s supporters at Euro 2016.
Russian and English supporters clashed in high numbers ahead of the sides’ opening game of the European championships, with violence continuing long after the final whistle.
Uefa has now taken action against the Russians for their part in the crowd trouble and has handed them a €150 000 fine. Any further trouble, meanwhile, will see the side officially disqualified from the competition.
French police have also reportedly blocked a bus of Russian supporters on their way to Lille.
‘They want to deport almost 50 people including women who did not take part in anything,’ Alexander Shprygin, president of the Russian Supporters Union, told Reuters.
‘The police are making up for their mistakes three days ago. We are in a bus in Cannes and we have been blocked in by riot police. We are not going anywhere for the time being.’
Russia’s next fixture will see them take on Slovakia at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy on Wednesday.
