Manchester United star Wayne Rooney has picked the two best players he has ever played alongside.
The Red Devils veteran, who has spent 12 years at Old Trafford, opted for long-serving midfield general Paul Scholes and Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo as his two choices.
Rooney played alongside the pair for a number of years as the trio won multiple Premier League titles as well as the Champions League title back in 2008.
Rooney’s two picks were made from a whole crop of top-class stars including the likes of Scholes’ compatriot Ryan Giggs, as well as the likes of Roy Keane, and defenders Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic.
Nevertheless, Rooney was confident with his choices.
‘I’d say there are two that stand out and they’re Paul Scholes and Cristiano Ronaldo,’ Rooney told Manchester United’s official website.
‘Paul Scholes is one of the best midfielders of all time. His passing, vision and the way he controlled the tempo of games was incredible,’ said Rooney.
Next, Rooney elaborated on his partnership with Ronaldo.
‘Cristiano is a special player and he has gone on to be one of the best in the world.
‘Some of the things he used to do in training and then take into games was unbelievable, he’ll always be remembered as one of the greats of the game,’ Rooney added.
Manchester United continue their pre-season preparations when they face Everton in Rooney’s testimonial on Wednesday.
Kick-off is at 21:00.
