Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has set his sights on remaining at the club despite not being part of manager Jose Mourinho’s plans.

Schweinsteiger has been largely excluded by the Manchester United dressing room but is nevertheless keen on remaining at the Old Trafford club.

32-year-old recently recommitted himself to the Red Devils despite alleged interest from sides from United States league Major League Soccer.

‘My absolute dream would be to play for Manchester United and help them reach their goals,’ Schweinsteiger told a news conference, reports ESPN.

‘We’ve held talks. I don’t have a problem with Jose Mourinho. We had a good exchange, he explained his standpoint to me. I know what Manchester United want. But I also know what I want.’

The player insisted his talks with Mourinho had been respectful in nature but remained adamant he would not throw in the towel and was still confident in his abilities.

‘One thing is for sure: I’m not going to stop playing football. I still believe in my own ability. I could still help United if given the chance.’

The star also pointed out a move to the US would be an option but was not possible at present.

The transfer window there is already closed. That’s why it’s not possible now,’ he explained.

Schweinsteiger made 31 appearances for United last term, scoring once.
