Manchester United left back Luke Shaw says he is enjoying life under Jose Mourinho and relishing the attacking freedom he has been given by the Portuguese manager.
The England international insists that Mourinho has given him the freedom to attack and he admits that it has boosted his confidence and performance.
‘At times people have said maybe he [Mourinho] doesn’t like his full-backs to go forward but that’s not the case,’ Shaw said.
‘He gives both full-backs that license to go forward, obviously not at the same time but if I have the chance then it’s up to me if I want to go forward or not.
‘It’s not that I’ve got to stay put or do particular things, I’ve got the freedom to play and that only gives me the confidence in what I want to do to help the team.’
Shaw, who joined United from Saints in 2014, described the reunion with his former club as ‘a very special moment’, according to the Manchester United website.
‘I was there for a great ten years and I’m really looking forward to seeing some of my teammates that I played with,’ he added.
Shaw made an impressive return to the Premier league in United’s 3-1 victory over Bournemouth in what was his first league appearance since September.
Kick-off has been set for 21:00.
