asRagnar Sigurosson proved vital in the Icelandic defence during their 2-1 victory over England in the Euro 2016 Round of 16 at the Allianz Riviera on Monday.

With Iceland advancing into the quarter-finals, the Krasnodar defender proved his worth after scoring the equalising goal in the sixth minute, levelling the scores at 1-1, before Kolbeinn Sigthorsson scored the winning goal 12 minutes later.

The 30-year-old was brilliant in defence for Iceland, winning an impressive two out of three tackles, while contributing a total of 10 clearances after spending 90 minutes on the field.

According to SASoccermag’s Opta-powered match stats, Ragnar Sigurosson managed to complete a total of 43 touches on the ball, while making five interceptions and winning three fouls.

In attack, Sigurosson managed to fire two shots on target, both coming from inside the box and ultimately leading up the sixth-minute goal.

The former Copenhagen defender completed a total of 12 out of 19 passes with 57.9% coming from the centre, while 26.3% coming from down the left.

Although Iceland won the match, England controlled the match and had the best possession (68.1%), while the Icelandic side could only manage 31.9% of possession.

The result means that Iceland progress into the quarter-finals, while England h been eliminated from the Round of 16.

The Icelandic side will now take on host nation France in the quarter-finals on Sunday.
