Fenerbahce have confirmed the signing of Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel for a £5-million fee. 

The 31-year-old ended his eight-and-half-year spell with the Reds after falling down the pecking order under German coach Jurgen Klopp.

The centre-back will be unveiled officially as a Fenerbahce player during a press conference after he passed a medical on Wednesday with the club announcing his arrival on their website, according to SkySports.

Skrtel joined the Reds from Zenit St Petersburg in 2008 for a fee of £6m deal and went on to make 320 appearances for the club during his stint at the Merseysiders.

The Slovakia international managed an impressive 18 goals from centre-back and helped Liverpool to a League Cup victory in 2012.

Skrtel remained a crucial part of the Slovakia team that competed in this edition of the European Championship.

The defender captained his country and played every minute of their campaign before Slovakia were eliminated by Germany in the Round of 16.

The German manager have already added to his defensive ranks with the arrival of Joel Matip from Schalke on a free transfer.
