Southampton star Victor Wanyama is set to finalise a £13.5-million move to Tottenham Hotspur, according to reports.
The Saints midfielder, who had just a year left to run on his deal at St Mary’s, travelled to London on Sunday to complete his medical and negotiate the finer points of his deal.
There, the player will link-up with former boss Mauricio Pochettino, while he will also be Spurs’ first signing this transfer window. 24-year-old will travel back to Kenya following an official unveiling over the course of the next week.
Pochettino was the man who brought Wanyama to the Premier League when signed for him the Saints from Celtic back in 2013. Now, Wanyama is set to compete with the likes of Eric Dier and Mousa Dembele for a place in the Spurs midfield.
‘It’s always a tough moment leaving a club where you are so much used to their tradition and fans but it’s always the dream of any footballer to play at the very top level like the Champions League,’ Wanyama told Soka25east.
‘I will definitely miss the awesome Southampton fans who always showed me love and I know they will fully understand my decision.’
Wanyama made 35 appearances for Southampton last term, netting once.
