Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge admits that it would be a ‘beautiful feeling’ to score a goal for England during the Euro 2016 campaign.

The 26-year-old was named in Roy Hodgson’s 23-man England squad for the Euro 2016 campaign along with four of his Liverpool teammates Adam Lallana, Nathaniel Clyne, James Milner and Jordan Henderson.

Sturridge will be hoping to add to his group-stage strike against Italy at the World Cup in 2014 by netting again on the international stage, reports the Liverpool website.

‘It was a beautiful feeling to score in the World Cup and it would be nice to score some goals here as well,’ Sturridge said.

‘For myself it’s important to go against everyone with the same mentality.’

The striker insists that he thrives off competition and believes that the mood in the camp is showing great signs of togtherness.

‘Competition is fierce at every club you play at as well as at international level,’ he added.

‘So for me I’m used to it, I thrive off it and I love it.

‘I think there’s a togetherness around the camp and at the hotel. it’s great to be a part of it. We’re preparing well.’

The Three Lions have never tasted victory in the opening match of the Euro campaign but the former Chelsea striker believes that record are meant to be broken.

‘Stats are stats, the past is the past,’ the striker said.

‘We’re very prepared. the management team have put in a lot of work. we will have no excuses because we have all the information that we need.’

Since making his debut for England back in November 2011, Sturridge has picked up 18 caps while scoring five times for the Three Lions.

England will take on Russia in their opening match of the Euro 2016 on Saturday at the Stade Velodrome.

Kick-off has been set for 21:00.
