Al Ahly striker Percy Tau has revealed that coach Pitso Mosimane did not influence his decision to move from Brighton & Hove Albion to Egypt, adding that there were other more important factors.
Tau has enjoyed a successful start to life with Ahly, netting goals at will after being reunited with Mosimane, with whom he enjoyed great success with at Mamelodi Sundowns.
After leaving the English Premier League for Egypt many believed that it was Mosimane who convinced the forward to make the move, but speaking to Al Ahly TV, Tau revealed that while it was a bonus to have Pitso at the club, it was not the biggest factor.
The 27-year-old touched on a host of topics including the negotiations between Ahly and Brighton, the difference between playing for Mamelodi Sundowns and the Red Eagles as well as his famous celebration.
“The role [he played]? I always knew him, but I did not think much about it because it was more of me going to play for Al Ahly and understanding that I will be representing a bigger club. And that I have to go there and do my best even though I knew he is here,” Tau told Al Ahly TV
“He is someone that I have worked with. He is gonna help me and try and be better for me, challenge me and make me a better player – but he didn’t play a huge role.
“I think there were other factors that were more important that I had to consider, but with him being here, it does help me,” Tau added.
