Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino says that defender Jan Vertonghen back at training ahead of Spurs pre-season clash against Atletico Madrid on Friday.
The 29-year-old defender picked up an ankle injury while on duty with Belgium during their European Championships campaign, where they made it to the quarter-finals before being eliminated by Wales.
The Argentine manager revealed that Vertonghen is close to making a return for Spurs.
‘Jan is back in London and training well now, he’s very close to coming back,’ Pochettino said.
Pochettino went on to say that he is uncertain as to whether the Belgium defender will feature during Spurs opening Premier League clash against Everton on August 13.
However, Pochettino admits that he has enough defender in his squad to replace Vertonghen, while he recovers from his injury.
‘We’ll see when we arrive on Monday and start to train with the whole group, but if it’s not possible we have enough players to replace him,’ he added.
