New York City FC boss Patrick Vieira believes Zlatan Ibrahimovic made a good decision by joining Manchester United.

The 34-year-old striker announced Manchester United as his next destination on Instagram on Thursday but the club itself is yet to issue a statement.

The former Arsenal star midfielder played alongside Ibrahimovic in Serie A at Inter Milan and Juventus and believes the Swede will be a hit in England.

‘I spoke to him this morning – he said that decided to go to United and he believes that is a very good decision for him. Of course, I will wish him good luck and I will be following him.’ the Frenchman told Sky Sports.

Vieira thinks the former Barcelona forward’s arrival, which follows closely on Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho’s arrival, in the Premier League and Manchester, in particular, is huge for the country and the city.

‘Look at the two managers in Manchester; look at Ibrahimovic; Aguero on one side, Silva, Rooney. I think Manchester is the capital of football.’

‘He is a good friend of mine and we spent time together at Juventus and at Inter.

‘We are still in touch once in a while and we have massive respect for each other.

‘What I really like about him is his character – he is a winner, a guy who can drive the team because of his character and that is a very good signing for Manchester United.’

Ibrahimovic, who has scored 392 goals in 677 games, is set to undergo his medical on Friday before being unveiled at Old Trafford.
