Wales reached a historic first major tournament semi-final following their 3-1 victory over Belgium in the Euro 2016 quarter-finals clash in Lille.

Heading into the match Chris Coleman made one change to his Wales side as Hal Robson-Kanu returns to the starting line-up in place of Sam Vokes.

Meanwhile, Marc Wilmots made three changes to his side as the injured Jan Vertonghen and suspended Thomas Vermaelen makes way for Jason Denayer and Jordan Lukaku in defence, while Dries Mertens drops out in place of Yannick Ferreira Carrasco in midfield.

Belgium started off brightly as Eden Hazard broke down the right. He crossed the ball into towards Romelu Lukaku in the centre but the Everton striker has ushered away from the ball as the Wales goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey collects it.

Belgium had a chance to take the lead in the seventh minute as Lukaku broke down the right sending a ball towards Yannick Carrasco who found himself in space at the far post, but the Welsh shot-stopper did well to deny the Atletico Madrid man from close range.

The danger wasn’t averted as the ball dropped for Thomas Meunier but Neil Taylor did well to clear his goal-bound effort before Hazard’s follow-up shot was turned over by Wales captain Ashley Williams and Ben Davies.

Gareth Bale gave his opponents a reminder of the threat he posed as he ran clear of Toby Alderweireld and lashed a fierce left-footed drive into the side-netting on the 10th-minute mark.

Just three minutes later and a stunning strike from Radja Nainggolan gave Belgium the lead as Hazard laid the ball off to the Roma midfielder on the left to cannoned his effort past Hennessey at his near post.

In the 26th minute, Wales came within inches of drawing level as Aaron Ramsey broke behind the Belgian defence, to pick out Taylor in the penalty area. The defender looked destined to score but the Belgium goalkeeper did well to preserve his side’s lead.

Just five minutes later and Wales levelled matters as Williams powered home Ramsey’s corner beyond the hapless Kevin De Bruyne on the line.

Minutes later and the Welsh could’ve taken the lead for the first time as Bale burst behind the Belgian defence and forced Thibaut Courtios into making a full stretch save to deny the Real Madrid forward.

Williams could’ve completed his brace two minutes from half-time as Ramsey delivered a good ball into the box to pick out the Welsh captain as he was allowed to head his effort at goal but the attempt flew just over the target from eight yards.

Belgium had a great opportunity to take the lead as Meunier’s inch-perfect cross from the right landed perfectly for Lukaku but the striker somehow managed to glance his header wide from close range.

On the 50th minute mark, Hazard looked in imperious form, dancing off the left wing onto his right foot before sending a sweet strike fractionally wide of the Welsh goal.

Five minutes later and the Walsh side hit back to take the lead for the first time as Ramsey made a great run forward into the Belgium area before playing it into the area towards Hal Robson-Kanu, who produced an audacious Cruyff-turn to leave three Belgium players for dead before smashing his effort past Courtois.

Alderweireld made a rare venture down the right before he crossed the ball into the six-yard area as Marouane Fellaini looked certain to score but somehow saw his headed effort guided wide of goal.

With just five minutes to play, the Welsh side doubled their lead as Chris Gunter picked out Welsh substitute Sam Vokes who met the cross at the near post before he glanced the ball across Courtois and into the back of the net.

The Welsh side held on to secure a 3-1 victory over Belgium to reach the Euro 2016 semi-finals for the first time in Wales footballing history.

Wales will now take on Portugal in the semi-finals at the Stade Des Lumieres on Wednesday.
