Tottenham Hotspur fullback Kyle Walker insists it’s a proud moment for him personally to represent England at the Euro 2016.

The fullback missed the chance to represent England at Euro 2012 and the 2014 World Cup through injury.

The 26-year-old is one of five Spurs players to feature in Roy Hodgson’s squad for the Euro 2016, including Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Harry Kane and Danny Rose.

Walker has racked up 16 caps for England and his form has got better and better as 2015-16 has progressed, illustrated by a Man of the Match display in England’s final friendly against Portugal, reports the Tottenham Hotspur website.

The former Aston Villa fullback believes that he was given a call-up to the national team for a reason, he will be hoping to make up for lost time and put in a good performance to help his team advance in the competition.

‘It’s exciting times now,’ said Walker.

‘I have missed out on a World Cup and a European Championship finals before with unfortunate injuries but these things happen in football. I’m a big believer in fate so that happened for a reason.

‘Hopefully I can get a few minutes’ game time but most importantly I hope we play well as a team.’

Walker went on to say that he expect the Three Lions can do well in the tournament having a youthful squad with pace and power.

‘It’s always a proud moment to pull on an England shirt and it’s going to be a great tournament. I think we’ve got a young, exciting team with pace and power so I think we can cause teams problems,’ the fullback added.

Over the course of the 2015-16 season Walker has managed to make a total of 35 appearances, scoring a goal and picking up three assists in all competitions.
