Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has praised his side for showing maturity and extending their unbeaten run, despite the goalless draw against Middlesbrough on Saturday.

The Gunners were forced to share the spoils at the Emirates Stadium following their 0-0 draw with Middlesbrough in the Premier League.

The 67-year-old manager admits that his side underperformed on the day, but there were positives in the match and they are continuing their unbeaten run.

‘We’ve lost games like that,’ Wenger told the Arsenal website.

‘We are in a position where we’ve come out of [seven] straight wins. We didn’t win but before we maybe would’ve panicked a bit and lost the game.’

Wenger believes the team became complacent and says his side’s lack of sharpness was due to their exertions against Ludogorets in the Champions League on Wednesday.

‘I don’t feel that is the case in training, that the players become complacent. Sometimes you’re a bit jaded physically, but we had to dig deep to get things going,’ he added.

‘Unfortunately when you play against teams like Middlesbrough, they watch the Champions League games on television and they are ready physically for the weekend. It’s not easy.’

Arsenal will now turn their attention to the EFL Cup when they welcome Reading to the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday.

Kick-off has been set for 20:45.
