Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka revealed that defeating Manchester United in the Champions League was the highlight of his career.
The 23-year-old Swiss midfielder arrives at the Emirates from German side Borussia Monchengladbach on a long-term deal.
The Switzerland international was playing for hometown club Basel in 2011, when they came up against Sir Alex Ferguson’s side in the group stage, reports the Arsenal website.
In the final match between the two side’s, Basel defeat United 2-1 to book their place in the Last 16 and Xhaka insisted that defeating a club of United stature was the best moment of his career.
‘I think [the best moment of my career] was a game against Manchester United for Basel,’ Xhaka said.
‘We played in Manchester and drew 3-3, then we played at home and won 2-1 to knock them out and progress to the next round.
‘It was big. Basel were a smaller club than Manchester United and to beat them 2-1 was a very nice moment.’
During his time at Swiss club FC Basel, Xhaka won two Swiss League titles and the Swiss Cup in a Double-winning season in 2011-12.
