Manchester United winger Ashley Young believes the Red Devils will be serious contenders for the Premier League title under Jose Mourinho.
With the Reds’ pre-season campaign over, all attention now switches to Sunday’s Community Shield match against Leicester City at Wembley Stadium, reports the Manchester United website
The 31-year-old says he is confident United will challenge for titles with the squad Mourinho has at his disposal.
‘Of course, we want to do that. Get back to winning ways, winning trophies. A club the size of United should be pushing for the title and I believe, with the squad we’ve got, we’ll be doing that this season,’ Young said.
Young insists he is relishing the chance to prove his worth when they take on the Premier League champions in their opening match of the season.
‘In another few days, we’ve got the Community Shield and it’s vitally important everyone gets minutes. Everyone is delighted to get those but I’m not sure how the legs are feeling right now. We’re looking forward to Sunday’s game now.’
The former Aston Villa winger featured 26 times for United last season, netting once and assisting a further three playing in competitions including the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and the Capital One Cup.
