Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has admitted he expects more from superstar forward Cristiano Ronaldo in spite of the star’s performance on Tuesday.
Ronaldo cut a largely frustrated figure in Real’s clash with relative unknowns Legia Warsaw in the Champions League, but still contributed up front as the defending Champions swept aside their Polish opposition by a 5-1 scoreline.
Real had soon taken control of the match despite a slight defensive wobble, with goals from Gareth Bale, youngster Marco Asensio, Lucas Vazquez, Alvaro Morata, and an own goal from Tomasz Jodlowiec completing the victory. Ronaldo, meanwhile, was noticeable by his absence on the scorecard.
‘Everyone wants Cristiano to score three, four, five goals,’ Zidane told reporters. ‘He had many chances tonight, [but] he scored on Saturday and will score next weekend,’ Zidane told the media, reports Goal.
‘We all expect more from Cristiano and he knows that. We want him to score three or four. There was no goal today but he got two assists and I also like that,’ added the Frenchman.
Zidane admitted his side has defensive issues to address and admitted they looked slightly disjointed at times, but maintained their attacking lineup had been purposeful.
‘I’m happy with the result, with goals,’ he explained. ‘It is clear that we can improve.
‘Defensively the balance of the team was not perfect sometimes, but our choice was to play offensively. Though we have risked and have given chances to the opposition,’ he concluded.
Real currently sit joint top of Group F with seven points from three matches.
