Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane insists that he will not rush superstar forward Cristiano Ronaldo back from injury.
The 31-year old is yet to play a single pre-season match for Madrid after suffering a knee injury during Portugal’s European Championship final against France, reports SkySports.
The French manager revealed that the club will be patient in nurturing the Portuguese captain back to match fitness.
‘Right now he still has his injury,’ Zidane said after his side’s 1-0 victory over Bayern Munich.
‘Obviously, he wants to be back but we need patience and for him to be calm. He will be back with us soon in Madrid.’
Despite not having the likes of Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, and Gareth Bale during their pre-season tour of the United States, Zidane insists that he is happy with the way the team has performed during the pre-season so far.
‘Overall I am very happy with what we have done this pre-season and the work we have done,’ he added.
Last season, Ronaldo helped his side clinch their 11th Champions League title and helped his side to a 2nd place finish in the La Liga, netting 51 goals from 48 matches in all competitions.
The former Manchester United forward featured five times for Portugal during Euro 2016, he scored three goals as he captained his country to the title.
